Favorite Things…Stocking Stuffer Style

My_Favorite_Things_Linkup_2014One of my favorite Christmas traditions is on Christmas Eve when my mom and I curl up on the couch and read the same story from the same book that we have been reading my entire life…Twas the Night Before Christmas.  Now we all know “The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there”, but what are you hoping to see in your stocking this year?

Honoring Our Heroes

veterans-day-observance-nbbcOften it seems like people only feel patriotic a few days a year-Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day.  After a wonderful birthday dinner with my family last night, I was reminded of why we should be patriotic every day.  The brave men and women of our armed forces endure things, experience things and engage in things we cannot even begin to understand.  Conceptually we know they train, they spend time away from their families and they defend our country, but what does that really mean to someone who has never seen a war field, a battleship or a fighter jet? As the amazing Coach Krzyzewski recently said, “the fact that we are a free country and we don’t play home games here is a result of having boots on the ground.” I don’t think we can ever underestimate the sacrifices they have made and continue to make, or the level of appreciation we should show them in respect for those sacrifices.    Continue reading

Voting-Our Responsibility, Our Right

PrintWith today being Election Day, I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to share with you my thoughts on voting. Don’t worry, this is completely non-partisan and no candidate “approved” this message!  I will not share any candidate’s names, platforms or political party information. This is simply meant to share with you that I believe it is not only our duty and our civic responsibility, but as a woman, it’s an honor and a privilege. I probably feel so strongly about voting because this wasn’t always the case for women in this country. Prior to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution being ratified in 1920, a woman voting in an election wasn’t even an option. Continue reading
